How to Choose a Russian Blue Breeder in Australia

Choosing a breeder matters more than choosing a kitten. The breeder determines your kitten’s health, temperament and how well they settle into your home for the next fifteen years or more. This guide is written to help you tell the difference between a breeder who genuinely cares and one who simply sells cats.

Start with openness, not photos

Beautiful photographs are easy to produce and easy to steal. What is much harder to fake is openness. A good breeder will happily show you where the kittens live, introduce you to the mother, explain their health protocol and answer awkward questions without defensiveness.

Ask for a video call before anything else. If a breeder will not show you the kitten with its mother, in the place it was raised, treat that as your answer and move on.

The questions that reveal the most

• Where were the kittens raised? Kittens raised underfoot in a family home, handled daily from an early age, arrive confident and litter trained. Kittens raised in cages or sheds often take much longer to settle.
• What vet work has been done? Ask specifically. Ours are vet-checked, F3 vaccinated, microchipped and wormed before they leave, and each kitten goes home with a health record.
• How old will the kitten be? Twelve to fourteen weeks is the responsible window. A kitten offered at six or seven weeks has missed essential socialisation with its mother and littermates.

Visit if you can, verify if you cannot

Compare, but do not rush

We would genuinely rather you spoke to several breeders before deciding. Ask all of them the same questions and compare the quality of the answers. The breeder who welcomes scrutiny is almost always the right one — and you can meet the kittens we currently have available whenever you are ready.
