Are Russian Blues Good Apartment Cats?

You do not need a house with a garden to give a cat a good life. Russian Blues are among the better-suited breeds for apartment living — provided you meet a few specific needs.

Why they suit apartments

• They are quiet. Russian Blues are famously soft-voiced — a genuine advantage with close neighbours.
• They are calm indoors. They play in short bursts rather than tearing around all day.
• Moderate exercise needs. A few short play sessions a day is plenty.

What you must provide

Vertical space. This is the most important thing in an apartment. A tall cat tree, shelves or a window perch effectively doubles your floor area from your cat’s point of view and gives them the height they need to feel secure.

A window with a view. A window hammock or perch with a view of birds and street life is the best free entertainment available to an indoor cat.
